HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Limited was established in the year 2002 as a joint venture between HDFC Limited and ERGO International AG in the stake-holding ratio of 51:49 respectively. While HDFC Limited is one of the country’s leading Housing Finance company, ERGO International AG is the primary part of the Munich Re group which is counted as one of the largest insurance companies of the world. Besides offering health insurance products, the company also specializes in offering a gambit of other general insurance products like travel insurance, motor insurance, home insurance, personal accident insurance, liability insurance, property insurance and marine insurance. Thus, the company houses all the other types of general insurance products under its roof whether such products cater to the retail sector or the corporate sector of our country.

Won the Best Customer Experience Award in 2016 by KamiKaze

As per the ICRA rating system, the company has received a rating of iAAA which indicates the company’s high claim paying ability developed through its diversified investment portfolio, sound underwriting principles and good reinsurance strategy. This rating generates trust among customers for the company’s products.

HDFC ERGO also received the ISO 9001:2008 certification for its operations and services, customer experience management and claims management. This makes the company’s brand more stable and transparent.

In February 2014, the company also received an award for the Best General Insurance Company in India which was awarded by Alternative Investment Review (AIR)

Through rapid expansion, the company today operates through more than 110 branches in 89 cities across India and employs a staff of more than 1900 employees.

HDFC ERGO has also taken over the business of L & T General Insurance Company which shows the company’s stable financial state.

The Balance Sheet of the company showed a Profit After Tax of more than Rs.151 crores which was an increase from the earlier financial year’s Profit After Tax of Rs.104 crores with a growing market share which stood at 3.7%.
